CONGRATULATIONS!

American Legion District 5 Oratorical Contest

Jesse LaBahn, (2nd from Left) a freshman homeschool student from Norman, OK took the gold medal for 1st place in the fourth annual American Legion District 5 Oratorical Contest at the Lexington First Baptist Church on January 7th.   Wasson O. Suribtha-Baltes, a senior student from Westmoore High School took the silver medal for 2nd place.  Taryn McCaa, a sophomore student from Elmore City-Pernell High school took the bronze medal for 3th place, and Nola Salie, a senior student from Lindsay High School took the award for 4th place.  Both Jesse and Wasson are now eligible to progress to the Department (state) contest on February 18 on the campus of the University of Central Oklahoma.

Our History

The American Legion was chartered by Congress in 1919 as a patriotic veterans organization. Focusing on service to veterans, servicemembers and communities, the Legion evolved from a group of war-weary veterans of World War I into one of the most influential nonprofit groups in the United States. Membership swiftly grew to over 1 million, and local posts sprang up across the country. Today, membership stands at nearly 2 million in more than 13,000 posts worldwide. The posts are organized into 55 departments: one each for the 50 states, along with the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, France, Mexico and the Philippines.

Over the years, the Legion has influenced considerable social change in America, won hundreds of benefits for veterans and produced many important programs for children and youth. Following is a chronology of significant dates in Legion history:

NO APPOINTMENT NECESSARY

Our Service Officers are here to assist you with your VA claim. We're here every Monday 8am - 1pm. Every 3rd Monday 9am - 5pm.

HOLIDAY HOURS

POST 88 WILL BE OPEN ON MLK DAY, MONDAY JANUARY 16. 2023.  VETERAN SERVICE OFFICERS WILL BE AVAILABLE FROM 9AM - 5PM.
